Yin Chai Hu

Clear Heat

1 TASTE
Sweet and slightly cold


2 MERIDIANS
Liver and stomach


3 FUNCTIONS
1. To reduce heat caused by deficient yin; 2. To clear heat in infants caused by malnutrition


4 INDICATIONS
1. Heat sings due to deficiency of yin manifested as afternoon fever and night sweating. Stellaria root (Yin Chai Hu) is used with Sweet wormwood (Qing Hao), Turtle shell (Bie Jia) and Wolfberry bark. (Di Gu Pi) in the formula Qinggu San.2. Infantile malnutrition manifested as swollen abdomen and emaciation. Stellaria root (Yinchaihu) is used with Capejasmime (Zhi Zi) Pilose asiabell root (Dang Shen) and Scutellaria root (Huang Qin) in the formula Chai Hu Qinggan Tang.


5 DOSAGE
3-10 g


6 COUTIONS
This herb is contraindicated in fever due to invasion by exogenous pathogenic wind and cold, or in cases with deficient blood syndrome but no sings or heat.
